Candle Fire Safety

There’s been a surge in candle related fires because they’ve become increasingly popular for home decoration and aromatherapy. If you choose to light candles at home, make it a Candle Safe Home. Just follow these guidelines to keep you and your family safe from fires and burns caused by lit candles.

  • Make sure candles sit properly in holders.
  • Place candles on a flat stable non-flammable surface.
  • Never leave a lit candle unattended by an adult in any room of the house.
  • Children and pets can knock over a candle causing fire and burns.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Don’t leave a child or pet alone in a room with a lit candle.
  • Keep matches and lighters away from kids reach to prevent them from trying to light an unlit candle.
  • Loose clothing can easily catch fire from a lit candle. Wear short or tight fitted sleeves and clothing around lit candles.
  • Never spray an aerosol can near a lit candle. Don’t use candles near combustible materials such as curtains, drapes, bedding, or cabinets and wood furniture.
  • Don't place lit candles near Christmas trees and holiday decorations.
  • Never leave candles burning when you go to bed.
