Stay Low and Go
The freshest air is near the floor, so be prepared to crawl. Smoke contains deadly toxic gases which can disorient or overcome you. Heavy smoke and poisonous gases collect first along the ceiling. And it can be there before you see or smell it. So stay safe by crawling out. Here are tips on how to stay low and go.
- Get down on your hands and knees.
- Keep your mouth covered.
- Crawl to the nearest safe exit.
- Use a different route if you encounter smoke at your primary exit.
- Practice this with the members of your household, especially your kids, at least twice a year
