Stop, Drop and Roll

If you or a family member should catch fire, don't run. Stop where you are, drop to the floor and roll around. Everyone should know this simple fire safety technique. It will smother the flames, possibly saving your life. It’s taught to professional firefighters and school kids everywhere. Practice this with the members of your household, especially your kids, at least twice a year.
  1. Stop still. Cease any movement which may fan the flames or hamper those attempting to put the fire out.
  2. Drop to the ground. Lay down if possible. Cover your face with your hands to protect your face and lungs.
  3. Roll around on the ground in an effort to extinguish the fire by depriving it of oxygen. If you’re on a rug or one is nearby, try to roll the rug around yourself to put out the flames.
