Car & Garage Fire Safety
- Have carbon dioxide detector and smoke alarm installed in or near your garage. <more>
- Fuel Engine vehicles and equipment produce carbon monoxide, an invisible, odorless, colorless and deadly gas.
- Move your car from the garage to outside if it needs to be warmed up.
- Do not ever run a car, generator, lawn mower or other fueled engine indoors, even if garage doors are open.
- Make sure exhaust pipes are not covered with snow, leaves or other debris.
- Store supplies such as paints, varnishes, cleaners, sprays, garden supplies, and aerosol cans well out of the reach of children and teens and away from heating equipment.
- Store liquids and sprays in an approved, metal cabinet designed for flammable liquids.
- Check to see if all the lids and caps are on tightly. Buy child proof capped products if available. Spills can lead to both fire and serious injuries.
- Make sure the area where items are stored is well ventilated. The vapor from gasoline is particularly flammable, so it needs plenty of fresh air.
