It's Daylight Saving Time - Change Your Batteries

The New York City Fire Department will be hosting fire safety events across the City this week to encourage New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks this Sunday for Daylight Savings Time.

As part of the annual “Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries” campaign, the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit will be distributing 50,000 9-volt batteries and fire safety materials at 25 locations this week. The citywide campaign is aimed at promoting fire safety awareness among New Yorkers and reminding them about the importance of having a working smoke alarm in their home. The batteries were donated by the FDNY Foundation.

Last month, the FDNY and FDNY Foundation unveiled the largest fire safety campaign in Department history called Sound the Alarm. Funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the cutting-edge educational campaign was developed in the wake of a tragic fire at 1022 Woodycrest Ave. in the Bronx on March 7, 2007, that killed nine children and one adult.
